Get ready to have fun!

Adventure Land is a retro-style pixel art RPG conceived by Penny Clay when she was 7 years old. For her 8th birthday, her daddy, Scott Addison Clay, gave her a barely working prototype where the townsfolk of charming Leafwood Village were all talking about Penny's birthday, and that inspiring day she designed the neighboring Forest world.

Over the ensuing year, the father-daughter duo designed the full scope of the game to include 9 worlds, a bunch of characters, quests, monsters, and the overall story arc. It remains very much a creative family adventure: Penny provides most of the dialogue, scene ideas, and quest designs, while Dad handles the coding magic. They designed the systems for animation, dialogue, quests, battle, collectibles, and—most importantly—changing hair and outfits! In fact, the current early version already has most of these main features up and running: you can move smoothly around the maps, talk to villagers to go on quests, battle monsters, pop in and out of buildings, manage items in your inventory, and save your progress. On top of all that, you can play dress-up: try on different outfits, wield a variety of weapons, and even set your hero’s name and hairstyle to make the character truly your own!

What you see above is the beta game that Penny got for her 9th birthday, complete with a special cake-based quest. Currently, it includes the fully built and playable Leafwood Village and a sneak peek at the Lake world. Leafwood Village is filled with friendly characters and fun quests to discover, while the Lake world preview showcases a gorgeous new map (with a shimmering waterfall!) but no quests, monsters, or items... yet.

While we've been testing with a few of Penny's friends, we'd love your feedback too!! We're actively building out more worlds, quests, monsters, and a bunch of fun surprises as we speak. Right now our top priority is adding monsters, items, and quests into the Lake world to bring it to life, even as we start mapping out the upcoming Forest world. Your thoughts and ideas will directly affect the game as it grows, so let us know what you think!

And if you're up for being a playtester, please include your email and we'll send you updates as we roll them out.

After a tour around the village please take the Adventure Land survey!
